Como Park/Falcon Heights Block Nurse Program Seeks Board of Directors Candidates

The Block Nurse Program is a local nonprofit organization that links older adults in the Como Park/Falcon Heights area with community resources, using staff and volunteers. Our services support independence, increase opportunities for socialization, and promote safety for adults as they age. We organize transportation, companion visits, respite, in-home nursing, technology assistance, wellness activities, and referral services that enable elders to remain in the homes they love.

The Program is seeking thoughtful, energetic Board candidates who are motivated to use their talents and resources in support of the Block Nurse Program’s mission by:
  • Ensuring healthy governance
  • Developing access to resources  
  • Assessing and adjusting operations to ensure that clients receive the best service delivery possible
  • Serving as mission and program ambassadors to raise the Program’s public profile and build positive community relationships
 
Strong candidates will have a wide range of knowledge and experience, including - but not limited to - one or more of the following areas:
  • Community networking/advocacy
  • Community-based health or social services programs
  • Personal and assistive technology/software
  • Business processes and services
  • Development/fundraising
  • Marketing/public relations
  • Finance/accounting
  • Legal services
  • Human resources
  • Nonprofit management
  • Prior nonprofit board membership
  Obligations of Board members:
  • Serve as trusted advisors to the executive director, enabling Program staff and volunteers to accomplish the goals and objectives established via strategic planning
  • Set policies and practices, oversee annual budget, audit reports, and make material business decisions
  • Assure compliance with principles, bylaws, and applicable regulations
  • Work with the executive director and Board chair to identify and recruit new Board members
  • Volunteer to serve on committees and/or task forces and take on special assignments as needed, as well as soliciting other volunteers as needed
 
Board members are expected to:
  • Attend Board meetings
  • Review executive director reports and other documents/updates prior to meetings, so as to actively and knowledgeably participate 
  • Attend committee or project meetings, as needed
  • Participate in strategic planning meetings
  • Volunteer for mutually agreed upon duties related to your areas of experience 
  • Attend fundraising/promotional events and activities

​Board terms are three years; meetings are held monthly or bi-monthly, as needed.
​

This is an uncompensated volunteer position.
